Rural Broadband Live Event Nov 9
Sunday , Nov 07, 2021
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin, and the O’Brien Fellowship in Public Service Journalism at Marquette University present:
Broadband for Everyone. What will it take?
Rural communities and underserved areas of cities both need affordable, reliable high-speed internet service.
But far too often, they don’t have it.
Join us Tuesday, Nov. 9 at noon Central Time, in a free, live discussion aimed at finding solutions.
Featuring a panel of experts including Vilas County Economic Development Corporation Board Chairman, Jim Tuckwell.
The one-hour event will be broadcast live over Facebook and YouTube.
It’s sponsored by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin, and the O’Brien Fellowship in Public Service Journalism at Marquette University. Rick Barrett of the Journal Sentinel and an O'Brien Fellow is the host, along with Kelli Arseneau, a former O’Brien intern and now a reporter with the Appleton Post Crescent.
Panelists will include: Shirley Bloomfield, CEO of NTCA–The Rural Broadband Association; Keith Gabbard, CEO of Peoples Rural Telephone Cooperative (McKee, KY.); Barry Orton, professor emeritus, University of Wisconsin-Madison; Jim Paine, mayor of the City of Superior; Vickie Robinson, general manager for Microsoft Corp.’s Airband Initiative; Jim Tuckwell, chairman of the Vilas County Economic Development Corp.; and Rebecca Cameron Valcq, chairperson of the Wisconsin Public Service Commission.
